Post-Op Gift Bags
We’re putting together post-op gift bags! New & second-hand medical supplies (otc, unopened) & comfort items (ex: coloring books) will be collected at mixers/gatherings to give to folks coming home from any surgery, with a special focus on celebrating those who received gender affirming surgery!
We’re also supplementing items from wholesale medical suppliers so each package has everything you’ll need! Each gift bag has a drug store value of $50-80 and cost us $20-30 to put together! Donations help us get supplies cheap and help offset this cost, since they’re all being given away FREE!

Where the money’s going
Post-op care bags and a location, of course! Check out About Us for more info on our full plan for the physical location!
So lets break down how we’re spending our $30k goal! Most of the supplies can be acquired through donation drives. My addiction to thrifting is paying off to give us a good start on furniture, and my own savings is being quickly dwindled by grant applications and business permit fees.
The cash will mostly be going towards the things that are harder to source through the community; building rent, wages, and wholesale medical supplies.
Below is the expected budget. The goal amount would go towards the low-end startup costs plus a few months of operating costs while we work on securing grants, gathering local donations, and holding community building fundraising events. The number may seem high for Equipment, Furniture, and Renovations. That’s to ensure we have the budget to make the space as wheelchair-friendly as we can. They don’t really come that way in Pittsburgh!
| Startup Expenses | ||
|---|---|---|
| Equipment, Furniture, Renovations | $ 8,000 | |
| Rent & Utilities (Down Payments) | $ 3,500 | |
| Rent & Utilities (3 Months) | $ 4,500 | |
| Insurance (1 Year) | $ 800 | |
| Starting Inventory (care bags, free pantry) | $ 1,000 | |
| Inventory (3 Months) | $ 1,308 | |
| Wages (3 Months) $15/hr, 30hr/wk | $ 5,400 | |
| Exterior Signage | $ 150 | |
| Contingency fund | $ 5,000 | |
| Total Startup Expenses | $29,658 | |
Did those numbers change? Yeah, I they-bossed too close to the sun. I’ve lowered my expectations and budget for the location (rent) and wages (Blake volunteered to go unpaid until we start getting grants!)
